Jacksonville is full of activities for a fabulous family vacation. Whether you’re a foodie, a sports fan, or just looking to relax with your family, Northeast Florida is the place for you.
Visit Sweet Pete’s
From salted caramels and chocolate-covered popcorn to lemon lollipops, shop for the packaged baubles at this family-friendly confectionery. It specializes in the use of natural ingredients, and it even offers vegan and gluten-free treats. If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind experience, sign up to make your own goodies on a special hands-on adventure with the candy master in person: Pete!
Speed up your karting engines at Adventure Landing Jacksonville Beach, and don’t forget to bring your swimsuits to face the waves at Shipwreck Island Water Park. One of my favorite attractions is the peaceful Little Saint Johns Lazy River.
Create your masterpieces
The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens Children’s Center, Art Connections, allows toddlers to explore and create their own artwork. Be sure to visit the “gallery for children under 5”, which exhibits replicas of the museum’s artwork so that children can touch and feel on their own. Everything is at the height of the boys, even the door! They must plan their visit in advance; admission is free for families on the first Saturday of each month.
The summer boys, the Jacksonville Suns, come into the picture every year from April through September. Don’t miss the family fireworks on Friday nights, and on Sundays, kids are invited to tour the bases after the game. My favorite nights during the season are Fifty-Cent Family Feast Nights: hot dogs, peanuts, and ice cream for 50 cents.
